‘Tis The Season Book Tag

Do you have a favorite winter read?

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

Told mostly in parts of the world covered in snow and ice, this is a perfect winter read.  Especially if you love the idea of talking/warring polar bears!

The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton

I haven’t quite gotten around to reading this book yet, but it is on my TBR and I am very much looking forward to reading it.  This is a historical fiction novel about a woman who obtains a doll house that is an exact replica of her own home, including the people/dolls inside.  Apparently this book is quite magical and I chose it because of the blue and snowy cover – Perfect for the Holidays!

Find a book you’d use as the star on the Christmas Tree.

The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

This edition can only be found at Barnes and Noble… and although it doesn’t look like it from the photo – it SPARKLES!  It is made of soft leather, and it is made of silver sparkling letters and stars.  It would be a beautiful addition to my Christmas Tree. It’s a gorgeous copy of this set.  (I didn’t include my customary link to it on Amazon like I usually do due to the availability only at Barnes and Noble…. and VERY much worth it also!)

Pick a fictional place that would be perfect on a winter holiday.

The Eternal Winter in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

How beautiful the winter was, even if it was eternal and without other seasons due to the White Witch’s magic.  It was still beautiful.  A winter wonderland during the holiday season for sure.

Pick one fictional character you would take with you on a winter holiday.

Well, since I chose Narnia – I choose Mr. Tumnus.  Such a sweet faun he was.  I’d love to have tea with Mr. Tumnus in Narnia during the winter. Such a lovely thought.

Name one book on your wish list this year.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. (Victoria) Schwab

I’ve read two books so far by Ms. Schwab (Vicious and The Archived) and I do truly enjoy her writing, although it can be a bit flawed at times.  This book has captured my interest without me even knowing too much about what it is about – so that’s saying something!  This is one of the many books on my Christmas list, but it seems intriguing – and so I chose it for this countdown.  (Plus the red of the holiday season on the cover helped!)

Favorite holiday drink, treat, and movie.

Drink:  Wawa Egg Nog.

It MUST be Wawa or I won’t drink it.  For all of those who don’t live on the East Coast – a Wawa is a local convenience store that is truly AMAZING.  It has the best of EVERYTHING you could possibly ever get.  Best coffee – best sandwiches – best drinks.  Just the BEST.  If you live near a Wawa, you know what I mean.  The year and a half I lived in Minnesota was torture being so far away from a Wawa.  Never again!

Treat: Homemade White Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cookies

I make these from scratch every year and they are AWESOME.  If you’re interested in my recipe, leave a comment and I’ll post it for you all!

Movie: Surviving Christmas

This is my favorite holiday movie.  It’s actually quite an anti-holiday movie, and that’s why I love it so much. It’s twisted and hilarious.  Definitely not a “traditional” holiday film.  I watch it several times every Christmas season and never tire of it.  R.I.P James Gandolfini.

Happy Holidays to all my readers and may you have a blissful New Year!
