The Fall Cozy Book Tag!

Thanks to the BookTube and Book Blogger Community for this particular Fall book tag!  Enjoy!

Crunching Leaves – The world is full of color. Choose a book that has reds/oranges/yellows on the cover.

For this, I chose George R.R. Martin’s “A Feast for Crows“.  This is the 4th book in the Song of Ice and Fire series that has inspired the HBO series “Game of Thrones“.  “A Feast for Crows” takes place simultaneously with book 5, “A Dance with Dragons“.  These are AMAZING books.  They are dense, long, and written in an old-English style… but these exact qualities make it that much easier to immerse yourself in the universe of Westeros.  If you haven’t picked up this series yet, I suggest you do.

Cozy Sweater – It’s finally cold enough to don warm cozy clothing. What book gives you the warm fuzzies?

This certainly is the “Inkheart Trilogy“.  Perhaps mostly the final book, “InkDeath“, but the other two are almost as good.  Okay.. okay… I choose “InkDeath“!  The series is full of excitement and suspense.  It’s full of books and book lovers.  Full of writers and readers. It’s a book lovers’ dream come true!  Of COURSE it gives me the warm fuzzies!

Fall Storm – The wind is howling and the rain is pounding. Choose your favorite book OR genre that you like to read on a stormy day.

I have to go with anything in the Fantasy genre for this question.  I love Fantasy… both Adult and YA.  I enjoy being immersed in other worlds, especially when created masterfully by amazing writers.  Our world is drab and boring, and so taking a nice stroll through a completely different world, even if utterly dangerous, is the best thing to do on a rainy day.

Cool Crisp Air – What’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

I would say “Vin” from the Mistborn Trilogy, but her world is too dire – and her situation too dangerous for me.  Her abilities protect her – but only to a point.

So, I’m going to go with Katsa from “Graceling“/”Bitterblue“.  Katsa is one bad-ass assassin.  She’s “graced” with the ability to always survive, which makes her hands-down the most amazing fighter I’ve seen in any book – male or female.  She can take on a group of thirty armed men while unarmed and not even break a sweat.  Although the world is harsher for her to deal with in “Graceling“than in “Bitterblue“, I’d still choose her.  It would be amazing to never have to truly worry about your safety like that… and there are SO many good things you could accomplish with that type of grace.  Katsa – definitely Katsa.

Hot Apple Cider – What under-hyped book do you want to see the biggest, hottest thing?

messenger

Oh, absolutely, without a doubt “I Am The Messenger” by Markus Zusak.  If I could, I’d force everyone in the world to read his books. I’d buy billions of them and hand them out to everyone in the street.  Markus Zusak is probably the most gifted writer I’ve ever had the pleasure to read, and yet only “The Book Thief” has gotten any mainstream acclaim.  “I Am the Messenger” has already won a few book awards and yet still continues to remain in obscurity. It’s up to you to change that, everyone! Let’s get this incredible book out there for everyone to read!

Coat, Scarves, and Mittens – The weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up.  What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

53

I am going to choose the Percy Jackson series here, but not because I would be embarrassed to read them.  They are really great novels!  So great, in fact, that I lent them out to my oldest son – he’s 12.  Aaaaaannnnd…. the 12 year old beat up my books so badly I’m embarrassed to even have it on my shelf.  They were paperback to start with, so now the spines are destroyed and the covers are damaged.  I need an entirely new set.  Crossing my fingers about this since Christmas is approaching quickly!

Pumpkin Spice – What are your favorite Fall time comfort food(s)?

Pumpkin Pie and Egg Nog.  Especially Egg Nog.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year and I would consider every single traditional dish (especially sweet potato casserole) as a favorite as well.  Ah, I love the holidays!
