Monsters of Verity – Book 2
Star Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars ☆☆☆☆
Synopsis: Following the events of This Savage Song, Kate is hiding out in neighboring city Prosperity, while August has taken a position of leadership within South City’s Flynn Task Force.
Malchai Sloane has taken over North City after the death of Callum Harker. He’s amassing as many corsai and malchai as possible in an attempt to finally overtake South City from the Flynns – preferably, with as much carnage as possible.
Meanwhile, South City is vigorously training an army of new recruits – the scores of runaways from North City who arrived in the South once Callum Harker’s death relieved them of the protection from the monsters they enjoyed for decades.
Kate is training hard in Prosperity to become the ultimate monster killer… while August is sacrificing his desire for humanity in order to fulfill what is expected of him.
Eventually, Kate will have to return, and both she and Flynn will have to fight – and finish – the war of the monsters.
Opinion: Oh, if only I wasn’t so truly, madly, and deeply in love with book one in this series then I wouldn’t be so incredibly disappointed in book two. I feel like I should love this more, but I just can’t get there.
It’s really good! Which is why the rating is so high… but my issue is that although I was fully immersed in book one, and absolutely in love with both Kate and August in book one ……… well, book two………. I just didn’t care about them enough this time. I just didn’t.
Perhaps it’s just me. Or perhaps I am right and Schwab just didn’t put her all into this one like she did the other. I feel like something crucial was just… missing. And it made me simply lose my level of care for this story and the characters. What happened?
I’m really not bashing the story. It was great. It was interesting. I’m just feeling as though something was missing. And it’s clouding my overall final judgement. If you liked book one, then by all means read book two! And then let me know if you agree with me or if you don’t in the comment section below. I’d love to know!
